Crispy Onion fritters are therefore made up of onions that are breaded with wheat flour and deep fried. These can be sweet or savoury.  Let’s learn through the crispy onion fritters recipe below.

Onion fritters are largely made up of onions. You will have to peel 4 to 5 big onions for this recipe. Onions contain sulfur that makes the eyes tear up as you peel the onions.

  1. The temperature of the oil should be moderate and not too hot to avoid burning the onion fritters.
  2. The onions should be of the same size to ensure that they cook evenly. Select onions of a similar size and shape right from the market for easy chopping.
  3. A paper towel is must have to sack and suck up the excess oil after dip frying.

Ingredients for making crispy onion fritters

5 big white onions

1 Carrot

2 Garlic cloves

2 Eggs

1 cup of wheat flour

½ a teaspoon of Baking powder




½ tsp Salt

1/2 tsp Black Pepper

½ a cup of Vegetable oil

½ a cup of water

How to Make Crispy Onion Fritters

Step 1

Slice the onions evenly, chop the coriander leaves along with the carrots, and transfer these into a large bowl. Break the 2 eggs into the bowl, Add the wheat flour, baking powder, paprika, black pepper, and salt to taste

Step 2

Gradually pour the water into the bowel with the onion mixture as you whisk and batter them together.  Continue whisking until you form a dough which is not soot hic and not too runny. The door mixture should for a dropping consistency.

Step 3

Using a deep bottomed cooking pan deep fry the onion fritters. Over medium heat place the cooking pan and add vegetable cooking oil to it.  When the oil is moderately hot, scoop 2-3 tablespoonfuls of the onion mixture and add them to the oil. let them cook for 2-3 minute before flipping them over, and cook the other side for 2 -3 minutes too. Watch as the oil fritters turn color to golden brown. Remove the now crispy oninion fritters from the oil and place them on a platter with an absorbent tissue.
